Whilst Essesx council cut childcare services one Socialist councilwoman in Seattle cuts her wage instead

Children's centers in Maldon and Braintree face the axe and some face reduced operating hours as Essex council has agreed to push through £2.3 million cuts in children's services across the county. Despite the councils extensive consultation processes and the peoples's wishes to not have these services cut the council seem to have totally ignored all suggestions.
Across the pond in the USA city of Seattle the recently elected Socialist councilwoman has cut her $117,000 a year salary to $40,000 a year, that's the average city workers yearly wage. When asked why she done this she replied:
"Every Councilmember faces a choice of who they represent and which world they inhabit, my place is with working people and their struggles. I want to give a voice to workers, trade union members, women, and immigrants. As a Councilmember, I re-commit to a fundamentally different political outlook. In line with the principles of the political party I represent, Socialist Alternative, I pledged to stay accountable to working people by taking only average workers' wage. Seattle City Councilmembers receive over $117,000 a year — the second highest of any city council in the country. Inevitably, such a salary removes Councilmembers from the realities of life for working people. I will only take home $40,000 per year. This amount is roughly the full-time take-home pay of a Seattleite. After paying taxes, the remainder of my salary will go to a Solidarity Fund to help build social justice movements. Throughout the year I will be making donations from this Solidarity Fund to causes such as workers' strike funds, and environmental, civil rights, and women's rights campaigns."
Imagine if a socialist sat on Essex council, lead the charge against cuts on working people and instead looked inward at the luxurious over spending that the ruling elite continue to do.
All members of government, from the MP's to the local councilors, should automatically be put on national average wage, they are supposed to represent us, not the multi-millionaires.
